Our government client was charged with developing communications
for a biannual Expo on industrial technology research and development.
The client's goal: to present a unified "look and feel" for the
government while showcasing the unique aspects of each industry
partner that was involved.
Solution
We designed a brochure series that presented the corporate story
and its Industries of the Future strategic vision, while also providing
separate profiles of each industry. We also extended this design
platform to a host of other communications projectsposters,
tabletop displays, bannersfor use at the Expo 2001 and beyond,
including CD-ROM packaging and publications templates.

Energy-intensive manufacturing industries have made great strides
in reducing waste in energy and resources. The U.S Department of
Energy's Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT) wanted to recognize
progress made by nine core U.S. industries, and to highlight their
contributions to the nation's economy.
Solution
Akoya created a series of dynamic, oversized posters recognizing
each industry and its economic and environmental impact. The posters
were displayed throughout OIT-sponsored Customer Appreciation commemorations,
including a special display in the lobby of the Senate Office Building.

Government-sponsored Industrial Assessment Centers in 30 universities
nationwide help small to medium industrial plants improve energy
efficiency and productivity while educating industrial engineering
students. This DOE program office was looking for an interactive
training tool that would prepare students for their role in plant
audits and facilitate students' access to the large body of tools
and resources available through the IAC program.
Solution
We conceived, designed, and wrote an engaging introductory curriculum
to prep students on professional conduct, safety considerations,
what to expect, and what to look for at a plant site, as well as
auditing details. The program was modularly packaged and presented
in a lively CD-ROM format.

A regional grocery chain was having trouble attracting and retaining
employees, a situation rendered particularly acute by the addition
of new stores. An employee recruitment campaign was needed, targeting
certain areas where new stores were located.
Solution
Our graphic design fit within the client's branded identity. To
address regional targets, our strategy used localized billboards
and bus panels as well as newspaper placement.

A large aluminum company wanted persuasive and hardworking communications
support materials for the corporate-wide launch of their quality
culture, characterized as the most significant change process in
the corporation's history.
Solution
We played a central role in formalizing the company's approach to
quality issues, articulating the initiative through words and graphics.
We then wrote and designed the corporate quality improvement launch
brochure and a pocket guide to the company's 8-step quality improvement
process. We subsequently wrote all non-financial material in the
company's annual report to broadcast and underscore the company's
total and continuous commitment to quality processes.

In a large power transformer plant, communications had to foster
a dramatic new employee commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
Solution
Our employee education campaign helped instill a new perspective
among employees. Videos, posters, and educational modules, created
with the inputs of a plant-wide employee group, were key tools in
reducing the number of multi-million-dollar transformer test failures
from twelve to one, in one year.

A major laboratory supply house needed a highly detailed 250-page
catalog of safety products produced in a tight time frame. The catalog
was the company's first to target this market niche. Management
of the full development process was required, as well as design,
writing, editing, proofing, layout, and relentless checking of facts
with hundreds of product suppliers.
Solution
The catalog successfully established our client in this market niche,
and the company subsequently relied exclusively on us for all outsourced
catalogs for this market. The most recent grew to nearly 600 pages.
