Bette Hughes

Bette Hughes brings a wealth of communications experience in both the non- and for-profit arenas. Most notably, she served as executive director of the Pittsburgh Council on Public Education, and as partner at Garrity Hughes and Company, a corporate communications consulting firm. Her accomplishments include creation and implementation of strategic planning initiatives and publications development for clients including the Engineering-Manufacturing Advisory Council of Westinghouse Electric Corp., the Carnegie Science Center , and the U.S. Naval Academy.
Bette also recently served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala , where she coordinated community and economic development projects. At Akoya, Bette manages the Workplace Partnership for Life account for the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She holds a B.A. in English from Webster University and an M.S. in public policy and management from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh .
